Homespun

2014
Found objects in situ; a rag rug, a cot
90 x 60 x 80 cm

Homespun was an assemblage installed on site, Kivinokka nature reserve and summer cottage area in Helsinki, Finland. The assemblage was created out of found domestic objects in situ, left in the dumpsters by the summer residents of Kivinokka after spring cleaning of their cottages, and into a cot of my own for the summer period. The act was carried out in the wake of the early days of Kivinokka when the cot(tage)s were still temporal and built by anyone out of anything available. The materials used and the temporal composition of the assemblage was addressing the contemporary permanency of the cottages, led to ownership, versus the history of the site being an unrestricted recreational place of the working class, as well as current summer residents living standards, versus the one’s in the past.
